You can too!

by admin on Jul.02, 2010, under Career Opportunities, Professional

It is no news that we are living in rough times, but there are millions of people doing rather well despite this fact.  Regular, ordinary, plain “Joe Schmo” people are managing to keep their heads above water and many of them are doing it in the comfort of their own home.  You many have already guessed what this post is about.  That’s right… the home based business world  is growing bigger all the time.  The success rate for home based businesses is around 70%.  For those of you who are not aware, 70% success rate for businesses is staggeringly good.  On top of that, more and more resources are coming available that make it easier and cheaper to start an online or home based business.

All it really takes is to stop and think a little and add to that a little bit of research and you can find a way to make money from home.  Additionally, it is very possible to make a decent living from home.  Some online businesses are even built on top of other online businesses.  It really comes down to an age old idea that if you can find a need and fulfill that need, you can make a lot of money.  I challenge you, and it is an easy challenge, to do a little sniffing around to see what opportunities are available.  There are many different kinds of platforms specifically tailored for use by people who have a skill or talent or idea to make money with.  If you find the right platform that provides the proper foundation and framework for what you need to do, the only thing left is for you to do is do it.

One such resource is etsy.  This website gives people a platform to sell handmade items and supplies.  It has given a money making opportunity to people whom, without it, would just be dabbling with some crafty little hobby.  The variety and craftsmanship of the sellers at etsy is endless.  Each seller gets their own online shop from which they can present and sell their wares.  You may have never given much thought to magnets, but take a look at this shop called StuckTogether.  So much goes into the detail, beauty, and value of items like those found at StuckTogether and you won’t find these things just anywhere.  Each item from these lone vendors comes with a cherisable rarity.  Many items are one of a kind.  StuckTogether is just one of the many shops you can go to as a buyer to find unique gift ideas.  The items range from practical to whimsical.

Maybe you have a knack for making something.  Maybe people would find your creation useful or amusing.  Maybe someone would be willing to pay money for your creation.  Turn your hobby or craft into a money machine.  Many people have already proven it can be done and places like etsy have helped to pave the way.  The rest is up to you.  This may be starting to sound like a blog version of an infomercial.  I just wanted to throw out an idea for anyone looking for a way to make some extra money using what you may already have at your disposal.

Good luck to you and I hope this helped.

48 Laws of Power

by admin on Jun.21, 2010, under Mind, Personal, Professional

Did you know there were 48 laws of power?  According to best selling author,  Robert Greene, there are at least that many.  I kind of like knowing what makes people tick, so when I was given this book by a dear loved one, I was immediately interested.  The book was to be a gift for me.  At the time I was told about it, it would be hours before I would be able to get my hands on it, so I immediately started google-ing and youtube-ing for Robert Greene and his book and found a good number of interesting interviews and neat little videos that people had put together regarding this material.  After that, I was very much intoxicated by what the book held within it’s covers.

Here is one of the interviews I found which helps to give an idea of how this book came to be, what it was meant for, and what kind of person the author is:

And, here is a nice little youtube video of the 48 laws with moving background music:

I have only just begun to read this book, but Robert writes in a very pleasant way that works by giving historical examples of both the results of following and not following the rules and accompanying explanations of the examples.  The really great thing about a book like this and this book in particular is that the value of the information will ring true in all aspects of the reader’s life.  It is also pointed out that power is a game that you are part of whether you want to be or not.  It would, of course, be better to know how it works rather than be the constanct victim of it in the hands of those who might not be so kind or forgiving as you might be.

I am sure I will share more on this book as I dig deeper into it’s chapters.  Until then, check it out for yourself and see if it might lend you a helping hand.  Maybe we can get a good discussion going about what this book has to say.

Embracing change

by admin on Jun.21, 2010, under Personal, Professional

From time to time everything must change.  This is true whether we like it or not.  Some people do better than others when it comes to change.  I personally think it is best to embrace change and learn to adapt to it rather than try to fight against it.  Fighting against it will only bring you more harm than good.  It’s like trying to row your boat upstream.  It is better to guide your boat to a more favorable spot downstream rather than using up your precious energy trying to defeat the rushing blast of life’s waters.

Adapting to change can arm you better against the turbulent tides of the economy and the job market.  Fortunate is the one who can see opportunity within disaster.  Stagnation is death.  If we are to live, we must seek to evolve and incorporate change into our lives.

Change is the very thing that has inspired this post.  I have recently taken ownership of this blog and I intend to make a few changes to bring in a wider range of beneficial information to help improve the lives of it’s readers.  I invite you to make comments, join in discussions, and bring helpful content.  I am open to suggestions for changes to the site as well.  Please feel free to give me your input or ideas of other major life improving topics that we could include here for the benefit of all.  This blob has been mainly focused around career development, but I would like to broaden this to life development.

Please feel free to register as a user of this blob or remain anonymous in your interactions here.  I do ask that we keep things pleasant.  I gladly invite all types of discussion from pleasant chit-chat to heated debates, but I do want to avoid useless and hateful comments or posts.  I am all for free speech, but anything can be conveyed in a gentle manner.  All I ask is that we keep it decent here.  I look forward to watching this blog grow.

Until next time, take care.
